Skills For Success

Substance Abuse Prevention Program
DePelchin Children's Center seeks to support Galveston County schools, families, and communities with drug, alcohol, and tobacco awareness programs and prevention services. Skills for Success is a free program serving Bacliff, Dickinson, La Marque, San Leon, and Texas City.

Services Offered

  • Informative presentations to schools or community groups about drugs, alcohol, and tobacco prevention
  • Educational groups for children at risk of substance use or abuse
  • Informational meetings for parents and parent education groups
  • Participation in health fairs, school functions, and community events

      Giving people resources to quit smoking

Statistics
  • 65% of children aged 12 or older have used alcohol
  • 36% of children aged 12 or older have used cigarettes or other tobacco products
  • 30% of children aged 12 or older have used illicit drugs
  • 29% of children aged 12 or older have used marijuana
  • 8% of children aged 16 or older admit to having driven while intoxicated
