Residential Services

DePelchin operates two Residential Treatment Centers.

  • Isabel Elkins Residential Treatment Center in Houston, Texas
  • Richmond Residential Treatment Center in Richmond, Texas

Residential Treatment Centers are inpatient facilities where youth ages 5-17 temporarily reside. They provide:
  • 44 beds in Houston and 22 beds in Richmond
  • 24-hour, short-term, intensive treatment
  • Therapeutic care for youth ages of 5 to 17 from staff trained in behavioral

interventions and management, therapeutic interventions, child development
      and first aid.

  • A range of services including individual, group and family therapy, community

and family living skills, socialization and recreational therapeutic approaches

  • Family services include family therapy
  • Therapeutic programs structured to the individual's needs
  • Ongoing outpatient therapy and services after the child is discharged from

      the program.

The program treats children and adolescents who suffer from conditions which include:
  • Depression
  • Bipolar Disorder
  • Adjustement Disorders
  • Abuse
  • Schizophrenia
  • Obsessive compulsive disorder
  • Other behavioral problems

Sometimes these problems are so severe that outpatient or day treatment services cannot provide the stabilization and intensive treatment necessary for the child to function successfully in a home setting and admission to a residential treatment program is necessary.

A Day At The Center
Although each resident's daily schedule and treatment varies and is based on individual need, a typical day at DePelchin's Elkin's Residential Treatment Center is structured and may include:
  • Academic studies through University of Texas Charter School
  • Group therapy by a licensed psychotherapist
  • Recreational activities
  • Meals
  • Individual therapy with psychiatrist
  • Milieu groups
  • Life skillbuilding lessons
  • Physical activity such as basketball, volleyball and pool aerobics

Residential Treatment Center staff includes:
  • A psychiatrist
  • Licensed psychotherapists
  • A licensed child care administrator
  • A psychologist
  • A nurse
  • Youth workers

Treatment in the Residential Treatment Centers is short term in nature and is expected to be an average of 90-120 days. Once a child leaves the program, continued therapy and medication monitoring is necessary.
