Kezia DePelchin Society

Society of Support
The Kezia DePelchin Society (KDS) is DePelchin’s giving society which provides individuals an opportunity to carry on the mission and legacy of DePelchin’s founder, Kezia Payne DePelchin. Members of the society make a significant commitment to safeguarding the lives of children through their gifts of time and treasure. Members of the society are recognized for their continued leadership and support of DePelchin Children Center. Kezia’s belief in the generosity of Houstonians is still realized through society members’ unflagging support.

Leap of Faith

1892, Kezia Payne DePelchin took a leap of faith and accepted into her care three orphaned infants for whom no other accommodations were available. Not a woman of means Kezia relied on the kindness and generosity of her fellow Houstonians to help support the children. Within a few short weeks, Kezia was able to move the children into a small, rented house on Washington Avenue where "faith Home" was born. Just six months after starting her orphanage, Kezia contracted pneumonia and died. Moved by her dedication and touched by the tragedy, the Houston community embraced Kezia's vision, adopted the home, and helped it grow. Faith Home is now DePelchin Children's Center.
