Family Support Services

Houston is not unique in its growing urban issues such as violence, school drop out, and crime rates. Community based leadership is essential to give a voice to the growing needs of families within the various cultures represented in the Houston area.

Working Toward A Solution
Family Support Services targets needs in various communities in the Houston area to encourage community collaboration, strengthen families, and encourage support and volunteerism in schools. Program services are designed to fit the unique needs of each community of service.
Family Connections is one such program offered in the Dickinson, San Leon and Bacliff areas.

Community Collaborations
Community collaborations build support and promote a voice for the community. Collaborations with community agencies, businesses, churches, and schools offer a format for identifying the specific needs and future goals of each community.

Parent Drop-In Centers
Parent drop-in centers encourage parents and grandparents to take an active role in their child’s education while offering services that may strengthen the family system including English as a Second Language (ESL) instruction, job training, internships, and social and emotional skill building.

Family Life Education Classes
Family Life Education classes offer parents and grand parent’s opportunities to gain new skills to promote a healthy and nurturing environment for their children. Wellness programs foster healthy family lifestyles. Classes and activities include nutrition and exercise, stress management, and family recreational opportunities.

Crisis Intervention
Crisis intervention is offered to students and families for emergency services including school behavior issues, domestic violence, financial crisis, lack of basic needs, and homelessness. In-home counseling and case management services offer families short- term intensive intervention to resolve family crisis, stabilize the home environment, and to encourage future success for the family unit.
