History
In October 2003, DePelchin Children’s Center was chosen as one of 54 organizations throughout the US to improve the care and treatment of traumatized children.  As part of the National Child Traumatic Stress Network (NCTSN), DePelchin will receive federal grant funding over a four-year period in the amount of $400,000 per year to increase the community’s awareness and response to childhood trauma.

The NCTSN is funded by the Center for Mental Health Services, a branch of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) within the US Department of Health and Human Services.  The NCTSN is coordinated by the National Center for Child Traumatic Stress, based at the University of California at Los Angeles and Duke University.

Goals

  • Increase accessibility to trauma-treatment services throughout a geographically large metropolitan area.
  • Develop a community network of expertise in recognizing and treating child traumas.
  • Develop processes for DePelchin to become a learning organization around issues of trauma.
  • Improve outcomes for children in child welfare and mental health services.
  • Translate research and theoretical knowledge about trauma into child welfare and mental health practice.
