Cindy Schaefer, LCDC, LMFT

When she was just 11 years old, Cindy Schaefer made a commitment to herself to devote her life and career to helping children and families. That commitment resulted in a 30-year career in the mental health field, nine of which have been spent working as a therapist at DePelchin Children’s Center’s main campus. Ms. Schaefer, a licensed chemical dependency counselor and licensed marriage and family therapist, works with children, ages 9 and older, adolescents and adults. Her areas of expertise include family therapy, marital therapy, substance abuse treatment, and adolescent and adult issues. Her approaches include cognitive and systemic therapy to help clients overcome multiple challenges and improve their lives. “I find the psychology of humans to be a science and a challenge to explore, and to have the opportunity of making a lifetime of difference in a family is immensely rewarding."

Ms. Schaefer, who was born in Connecticut and raised in Houston, earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree in sociology and psychology from Stephen F. Austin State University and her Master of Arts Degree in counseling psychology from Texas Woman’s University. She is a clinical member of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists. In her free time, Ms. Schaefer enjoys reading, music, nature and current events.
